San Marcos Institute Reunion

Josh Smith & Misi Mann were married in May of 2003, and now live in SLC, UT with their three cute kids: A 4 and a half year old girl – (loves singing & making noise in general, reading, coloring, primary, and bossing her little brothers around); A 3y.o. boy (loves tools, Batman, running, shoveling snow, blueberry yogurt, and playing with big sister); And another sweet boy, 1 in Feb. (loves his daddy, peek-a-boo, patty-cake, being held by mommy all day long, & chasing after his big siblings when she can’t). Josh is still working in IT, but now he enjoys using his computer-geek skills for the Church.  He earned a Masters in Space Studies last year and would love to get a doctorate in AstroPhysics.  Being the 1st Counselor in the Bishopric, serving on the city’s Planning Commission, and being the world’s best daddy, however, doesn’t leave as much time for school as he’d like. Misi now goes by her middle name, Alisa, and is busy keeping track of the kids all day.  They are her world now, and she loves it.  She teaches in Relief Society, and in her spare time enjoys reading, blogging (mrs.smith.smithfam.us), writing, going on dates with Josh, and playing piano.  Someday she hopes to (a) get a kids’ book published, (b) sleep through the night again, and (c) have a clean house.  It’s likely that the latter two won’t happen for another 18 years… but that’s okay. 

Lance and I got married in the San Diego Temple on Dec. 10, 2005 and lived in San Marcos, doing the work and school thing for a couple of years.  We had a beautiful little girl, Mia Nicole on June 15, 2007, then 2 months later moved to Phoenix, AZ for a great job opportunity.  We’ve been here for just over a year now and for the most part we like it.  We have a great ward and have been able to make good friends. Lance is an Enrollment Counselor at the University of Phoenix and is finishing up his degree in business & marketing there.  Between work & school he doesn’t have a lot of free time.  I’m a mom & a wife & I really love getting crafty and playing with Mia.  She was a flower pixy for Halloween (that’s the pic).  Most of the time she is so stinkin’ cute and hilarious (might I add), and the other part of the time she is just a stinker. I think we are hitting the terrible twos early, man that girl can throw a tantrum.  For example, she gave herself a black eye today.  I had a bowl of Jelly beans out, she wanted one, I told her she had to eat her dinner first, she then threw herself forward into the edge of the couch hitting her face just below the eye…thus a black eye.  Lovely.  What can I say.  Life is good.  You can check us out on our blog:  www.adayineternity.blogspot.com.

Joanna (Greenwood) Burningham and Randy Burmingham are   now living in Escondido, California.  After they were married in 2003, Randy continued his education at Cal State San Marcos, and graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Information Technology.  Joanna finished her child development certificate in 2004, and worked for the Carlsbad School District as a Special Ed Instructional aide until late spring of 2006.

In the early summer of 2006, Ella Gene was born, and Joanna became a stay at home mom.  Ella is two and a half now, sh

e is very fun and exciting.  She is constantly singing and dancing around the house.  Becoming a mother is one of Joanna’s life long dreams, and she loves every moment.

After several attempts to purchase a condo in Escondido, they have decided to put their search on hold.  Since the housing market still seems to be dropping, they are content on waiting to get the most for their money.

Well what can you say about Jenn Williams DeGolyer?  I’ve spent my years as a nerdy accountant, finding great fulfillment in something that always adds up.  Years ago I was called to serve in the West Virginia Charleston mission (rich in my own family history; there are graveyards dedicated solely to my family there) only to be swept off my feet by my best friend’s wickedly handsome cousin.  Born in England, mere miles from Dundee, Scotland where I was born, we seemed destined for each other.  He was captain of the chess team, for those of you goons who gave me all those chess awards.  He’s just as nerdy, with his passion leaning toward computers (he’s a Geek Squad Agent!).  He asked me to stay 9 days before I was to report to the MTC.  We were married two months later on August 19th.  A year later, I had the happy news of finding out I was pregnant, and after a grueling almost nine months, the most beautiful baby girls (no offence to other moms; I just ilke mine best) entered my world.  Chloe Brooks DeGolyer was born on Feb. 12 of this year.  So, I’m a wife and a mommy and everything comes next!  I’m currently residing in San Marcos, having just moved back down here from Aliso Viejo in southern Orange County, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing everyone again in March!!!

Kim Hawkins currently lives in Riverside, California.  After marrying Shonn Haren in 2004, they moved to the Inland Empire.  After some negotiating , begging, and pleading to the admissions office, Kim transferred to UCR where she spent the next year completing her BA in English.

In the spring of 2007, Elizabeth joined her family, and Kim began her life as a stay at home mom, a job she is happy to have.  Elizabeth is now 16 months old and an active and energetic toddler who keeps Kim very busy and endlessly entertained.

Shonn is currently in graduate school at UCR studying to get a PhD in History, so they plan on being in Riverside for some time yet.

Kim misses being close to the beach and the beautiful San Diego weather, but is happy to be able to take care of her little family and fulfill her life’s dream of being a mom.
